For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Jesus wants a relationship with us. He’s the creator, yet He wants a relationship with us – He wants to write His law on our hearts. He wants us to have that fellowship.
The amplified version adds “recognise, understand, and be acquainted with”. We can each know Him, there’s no need to go through anyone else. Let’s go back to the basics of these things – seeking Him together and on our own.
Commune with the Holy Spirit – let these things be the priority in our lives. Jesus walks with us and speaks to us as He did in His resurrected body on Emmaus Road (Luke 24:13-35). Jesus is at work all the time – let’s ask God to see Him and recognise Him. He’s calling us to know and understand Him. Get on board.
Think of a “no entry” sign turning into an arrow. God, the good shepherd doesn’t take us to a dead end but on a new way. In Isaiah 48:6, He talks of “new and hidden things”. God is doing a new thing, opening new paths and green pastures. Let Him be our God – lean upon Him. We must train ourselves.
