We learn about the attributes of God by revelation, which can come from scripture, from tradition, and from teaching. We must be humble to be able to receive the revelation, but we also need our minds to make sense of it.
This means that our life will be an ever-unfolding question rather than a settled knowledge of what God is like. Life should be an unfolding question met with an unfolding answer.
The foundation of our understanding of anything is our understanding of God. Our foundation is how we view God. Many have been radically changed when they understand fully that God is Father. Acceptance of the Trinity will give us insight into the oneness that God wants for His church – family, a dynamic of love through self-giving. The reality of God is a dynamic unity.
If God is like a “family unit” then the things He loves and creates are going to reflect that unity and oneness.
I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
Our fragmented society shows that it has very little regard for God. The church is meant to stand as the pillar of the truth that people and families can stay together.
