Reporting to the Police
It is never too late to report abuse you experienced. You may wish to report non-recent abuse because you are concerned that the perpetrator may be hurting others, or you want to do so for your own reasons.
How to Report non-recent abuse
If you do want to make a report, you can contact Northamptonshire Police and speak to them about what happened to you. You can report abuse to the police no matter how long ago it happened.
You can start by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quote Operation Lifeboat. Arrangements will then be made for contact to be made with you by a Specialist Detective. You can contact Northamptonshire Police even if you don’t live in Northampton or the abuse you wish to report was outside of Northamptonshire.
Please note that if a person is identified within the Redress Scheme process as posing any risk to others (including any person you mention in the course of your application as being responsible for abuse), the Police may need to take appropriate action to ensure others are safe. Your identity will remain confidential in this case. Find out more about Privacy and the Redress Scheme here: https://jesus.org.uk/privacy.
If you don’t feel able to speak to the police, then you can contact one of the charities and other organisations listed here Support from other Organisations who will be able to guide you through the best course of action and provide you with independent support.
